Melanoma

Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer because it can spread very quickly to lymph nodes and other organs. Melanoma can be treated successfully when detected early; however, it can be fatal if it spreads (metastasizes) to other parts of the body. Melanoma is often a pigmented skin lesion – brown, black, tan in color – but can also be pink or red. They can arise within a pre-existing mole or develop as a new skin lesion.
